Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources believes that Indonesia has a bright future because it has almost all the energy resources needed for the energy transition.“Indonesia's future is very bright. We have to believe that we have a very good future. Compared to neighboring countries, we are still in a better position and we have almost everything we need in the process of energy transition”, CEO of “ New and Renewable Energy Sources.” Energy and Energy Saving at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana told the Energy Transition Youth Forum he attended here on Thursday.
He noted that Indonesia's renewable energy potential of various types, evenly distributed from Aceh to Papua, is about 3,700 gigawatts.
Indonesia has solar and geothermal energy potential, along with hydro, wind, hydrogen or bioenergy, Kusdiana said.

"Aceh has geothermal power. Now we are building a big hydroelectric power station there. North Kalimantan (has) 10,000 megawatts of hydropower and soon (we) will turn it into a green industrial park. The easternmost part of (Papua) has around 23 gigawatts of hydroelectric potential," he added.
He also said that East Nusa Tenggara, which seldom rains, has better quality sunlight than other parts of Indonesia, with a threshold of 30 percent.
Kusdiana added that Indonesia, as a maritime country, has great potential for marine energy. These resources require the innovation of young people, because marine energy will be the energy of the future.

“We have the complete mineral (species) except lithium. In fact, we have it, but the quantity is very small. Water from geothermal springs, if processed, will result in lithium. We have other minerals such as nickel, manganese, cobalt, iron and copper. These are the most important materials for battery production,” he added.
"It depends on where we want to take Indonesia. I think we need to learn and innovate (in developing clean energy potential)," he added.
United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Indonesia Director Jeff Cohen said his administration is aware of the strategic commitment of youth around the world, especially in Indonesia, to promote long-term sustainable development. .
He noted that USAID supports various youth programs to create initiatives because the younger generation has the ability to be more creative in demonstrating their preferences for the energy transition, such as efforts to overcome the negative effects of climate change and take action on renewable energy.
