Solar Panel Sales Boom As Energy Bills Soar

How To Invest In Solar Energy Stocks Top 10 Solar Stocks

The energy cost crisis has led to an increase in the demand for solar panels.

More than 3,000 solar panels are installed each week, up from 1,000 per week in July 2020, according to trade association Solar Energy UK.

One seller said he saw a 10-fold increase in solar panel inquiries this month.

"More solar panels are being installed on UK rooftops than ever before," said Chris Hewett, chief executive of Solar Energy UK.

The fact that renewable energy helps protect the planet always makes it an attractive option.

Their operation is simple. The panels absorb sunlight through photovoltaic cells which convert it into electricity or batteries that can flow throughout the house.

This process significantly reduces the amount of electricity required from the grid.

People who have successfully installed solar panels claim to have saved hundreds of pounds in electricity bills.

But they are not a solution for everyone, as setting them up means thousands of pounds of upfront investment and you need the right type of property.

However, rising energy prices have shortened the time needed to repay the initial investment.

How much does it cost?

Ten years ago, a typical solar panel system cost around £20,000 and it took about ten years to recoup the cost of installing it.

But prices for solar panel systems have fallen by more than 60%, meaning it can take four to five years for the system to pay for itself.

The price includes installation and the number of panels depending on the available roof area. A typical 20 m2 roof can accommodate 12 panels.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors estimates that a standard solar panel system will cost between £9,000 and £11,700, while Solar Energy UK puts the cost of a 'typical' 3.1kW system for a three-bed house at £3,925.

Your payment will depend on the size of the system, the type of panels you choose, the quality of the components, the availability and status of the roof repair, and the individual installer. tell me which one

Which features are suitable?

Not everyone will own a home that can utilize solar power, especially if you have land facing north or your house is mostly shaded.

"Solar panels are ideal for residential buildings with roofs facing south, east or west, preferably without shade," says Mandip Bhamra, renewable energy manager at SaveMoneyCutCarbon.

"Depending on the age of your home, you may want to check the structural integrity of your roof before installing solar panels on it," says Brian Davenport, owner of The Solar Center.

Most installers have the option of contacting a structural engineer to calculate the wind load if there are signs of roof failure, he said.

"Also, you have to have a small space in the attic for the inverter, about the size of a microwave oven," he says.

If you live in an apartment, it's a good idea to discuss installing solar panels with other residents and homeowners.

"For apartments, most of the roofs must be in good condition, and in some apartments that already have plots, it can be above ground," said Mandeep Bhamra.

How can solar power help you lower your bills?

The amount of electricity generated by solar panels depends on the type and size of the facility and the home.

A report by Solar Energy UK shows that the average household can save more than £300 per year on electricity. Homes with electric heating can be up to £900 a year better, according to the report, although most homes in the UK still have gas central heating.

Kevin Holland, chief executive of Norfolk renewable energy company The Solar Shed, said the cost of electricity from solar panels could nearly double if energy costs rose as expected this winter.

A typical solar panel system could generate £1,200 worth of electricity a year at current prices, he said.

If, as expected, electricity costs rise by 80% in October and another 50% in January, the cost of electricity generated by a typical system could reach around £3,240.

If you don't actually use up all the electricity generated, you can sell the excess to the utility company.

"Solar panels save £80 a month"

Colin Froude installed solar panels in his family home in Salisbury, Wiltshire, 11 years ago.

"I've never regretted it. It paid off itself in seven or eight years and now my electricity bill is just £67 a month, savings of up to £80 a month," he explained. Royal Air Force, but now retired.

“Paying on a fixed order means I've actually made £330 on credit over the last few months. Even if the bill comes in October, I will not upgrade my subscription because this balance will help me get through the new year. "

He spent £18,000 to install 19 solar panels in his home in 2011 and claims to have generated around 400kW of electricity, worth £21,000.

He spent an extra £12,000 a year ago installing new batteries, transformers and optimizers in each panel, but says it has greatly improved performance.

"I did it to protect the house from blackouts, but it paid off quickly."

He cooks on electricity and says the solar panels produce all the hot water the house needs, so he doesn't pay for gas when the heating is off during the hot summer months.

"With energy costs rising, I would recommend solar panels to anyone," he said.

What else should you consider?

This is a big investment, so there are a few things to consider.

"The right solar panel system can be a reliable source of renewable electricity for decades and help reduce your carbon footprint, but buying the wrong system can cost you," says Yang.

In other words, it is important to do thorough research and get various citations.

It's also important to consider that no matter how much you spend, it may not add the same value to your home. Old, outdated, and unattractive solar panels can turn some potential buyers away for good.

"Solar panels are a great idea until you can't see them," said Charlie Wells, CEO of real estate agency Prime Purchase.

"Real estate agents are unlikely to offer a higher price if the property has solar panels," says Brian Davenport.

Kevin Holland said some buyers were interested in renewable energy and the opportunity to save on energy costs.

"If there were two houses for sale on the street, one without diesel and £4,000 energy and one with diesel and £1,500, which would you buy?" He says.

Demand for solar energy will increase by 2022
