Octopus Energy describes the solar panel installation process
Adding Octopus Energy's new solar panel installation service as a "guinea pig" to his home, he said, is "absolutely flawless." Last month, the company announced the addition of solar panels and solar batteries to the suite of home energy technologies available to Octopus customers. Initially available in the Midlands and South and due to roll out nationwide later this year, the company aims to have 5,000 facilities built by the end of December. The new offering comes from the company's engineering arm, Octopus Energy Services, which has previously installed air source heat pumps, electric vehicle (EV) chargers and smart meters.
Deb-Simkin, Head of Marketing and Product at Octopus Energy, told The Express. I always wish I had one, because it feels good to be sustainable, to be electric. I got an EV last year; I am very interested in getting rid of the gas boiler and installing a heat pump.
"So I thought, Why aren't we one of the guinea pigs for our first fitting?" For her home in Rugby, Warwickshire, colleague Deb-Simkin has installed 18 solar panels on the roof. He's a little older than a 10-year-old, but his busy family, electric car, four kids, and aquarium "eat up just the right amount of energy."
Ms. Deb-Simkin continued: “I decided to bite the bullet and ride it in mid-December. And I must say that it is actually a very simple process.
In all, it took only four days to install the rooftop solar panels and accompanying rooftop batteries. "Then they left me with a system that works perfectly," he added. It's great, you don't have to do anything, everything works.
"I log into the app every day to see how much I've earned and how much I've saved." According to Ms. Deb-Simkin, the new solar panel's maximum output to date, at 13 kilowatts, occurred last week.
And a few nights ago," my husband said, "You know, the first time the batteries ran out?" She said there was a lot of confusion. And I said, “Oh! We haven't really met."
"December is definitely not a good month to do that," he said. Because you get 10 times more generations in the summer when the sun is at its brightest. However, he added, "Over the course of a year, the panel should cover about two-thirds of my electricity use, and when I'm charging the electric car, it also adds 'gas'...he said.
“I am absolutely missing out on nothing,” Hay said. “I wish I could do it very quickly, because it's so easy to do.” Ms. Deb-Simkin said the next step for her family would be to start selling excess electricity back to the grid, which is easy to do in Summer is when you have plenty of supplies, but don't require automation and extras.tools to do

Octopus Energy claims to offer the highest prices in the UK for sending power to the grid.
A company spokesperson explained: “Between September 2021 and September 2022, customers with this tariff will be charged an average of £0.34 per kWh, up from last year’s £1.29 per kWh.
Salida Fija pays the country's cheapest export rate. Customers get £0.15 for every kilowatt-hour fed into the grid. That's "three times what other energy suppliers pay."
Solar panel and solar battery customers who choose tariffs issued by Agile can save up to 90% on their electricity bills compared to customers with standard variable tariffs. The most important thing, she added, for Deb-Simkin to understand is that solar panels are an "investment": "We need to be clear that they have a significant upfront cost to me."
However, in the long term, in his case, they have a chance of paying off in "eight or nine years". "I think I can put the cost of the panels on the house up to and after moving in," Ms. Deb-Simkin added.
In fact, solar panels can add up to 10 percent to a property's value, more than covering the initial cost. But, said Ms. Deb-Simkin, it's important to make sure you have a well-maintained sunny roof that isn't obscured by shade from a large tree.
He added, "I know it sounds silly, but really, a south-facing roof is perfect." Mine is actually east to west so I have planks on both sides so that's okay.
Octopus Energy also combines solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps to create what some homeowners might call zero-bill properties, where homeowners generally sell enough electricity to the grid to pay for nothing.

The concept is being trialled in Essex, with developer Elk Homes, where 22 eligible properties will be sold with a zero bill option.
According to Octopus, their goal is to provide Zero Bills certification to 10,000 homes by the end of the decade. While the initial focus of the project is new build properties, the ultimate goal is to take this product to the renovation market.
“I mean, I would really love that,” said Ms. Deb-Simkin. I think it's going to be very interesting over the next five to 10 years in terms of what we can put in the house to clear the bill.
Solar panels are invaluable, he concluded, "If someone is looking to invest in something that will increase their property value and go electric. You can eat your little castle, an English house is a tower, and that's a good thing."
