Homeowners Say Their $80,000 Solar Panels Dont Work And Now The Metro Company Is Bankrupt

The clients of the bankrupt solar company do not know where to deal with non-working solar systems.

Channel 2 Consumer Protection Investigator Justin Gray has learned that Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr is actively and openly investigating Pink Energy.

Pink Energy was formerly Power Home Solar and filed for bankruptcy last fall.

"This solar system cost $80,000 and it hasn't worked a day since I got it," Oz Des Gray said of the 27 solar panels at his Covington home.

Dees said he generated only $2 worth of electricity from the system last month. Pink Energy has promised to make money by bringing electricity back into the grid, not just to cover utility bills.

Instead, he pays hundreds of dollars a month for the system on top of his usual electricity bill.

"I've been out of the Atlanta Fire Department for 30 years, and not because of a mortgage, but because I'm paying $1,000 a month for electricity, which is crazy," Deas said.

Des is not alone. Pink Energy's liquidators said in a statement: "The liquidators note that Pink Energy has numerous customers with solar panel systems that are not installed, not working properly, or not working at all." However, the manager said that "the client's solar system could not be completed or repaired."

Becky Herrington is another disappointed Pink Energy customer.

“They sold us a Lamborghini and gave us a broken Pinto,” Herrington said.

Channel 2 Action News contacted Generac. The company that marketed the Pink Energy product.

Generac says it will service and repair faulty equipment sold by Pink Energy under warranty.

A Generac spokesperson wrote in a statement: “We understand that customers are frustrated with their experience with Pink Energy. However, Generac remains committed to our customers. We honor our products and warranties.

Dees said he had technicians at home from Barber Power Home Solar, then Pink Energy, and now Genrac.

“They went out multiple times and got the same result, nothing worked,” Des said.

A Generace representative said they would bring a technician to Des to work on their system.
