Oklahoma once had the lowest electricity rates in the country. But over the past two years, Oklahoma home prices have risen by about 20 percent, leaving many Oklahomaans looking to heaven for help.
For about 234 days a year, Oklahoma's sun shines, hisses, and often scorches. He provides electricity to the house and car of Bob Calvert and his wife.
“We decided it would be wise to do everything possible to minimize our impact,” Bob explained.
His motivation was to act ecologically, and saving on ecology was a big advantage.
For residential customers, you only pay the basic operating fee and operating costs of $13 per month, and pay nothing for actual electricity.
On very sunny days, Bob feeds electricity into the grid and OG&E gives him credit for use on overcast or overcast days.

Solar kits in Oklahoma
But besides the Sun, how do solar systems perform in Oklahoma's other climates?
"They're incredibly powerful," said John Coffman of Commercial Solar, who installed Bob's system. "They're designed to throw golf ball-sized hail."
Coffman hints at a hailstorm in October 2021.
“None of my clients have damaged their solar panels,” he said. “If he goes into a corner, he might break. It's like you're driving down the street and a stone hits your windshield."
Manufacturers claim that the panels can withstand any weather conditions.
Tony Capuchil, owner of EightTwenty, showed us around his warehouse so we could take a closer look at the panels and installation.
“It can handle 150 kilometers of direct wind,” Capuchil told us, pointing to a simulated rooftop setup.
Solar system protection
Many will ask: how will solar energy affect my home insurance premiums?
"Two or three will say they're going to raise the stakes," Coffman said. "For the vast majority, it has nothing to do with the politics of the owner."
Some companies even cut your costs because the panels protect your roof. It is best to consult with your insurance agent before making a decision.

OG&E says don't be fooled by anyone who comes to your door, they are not affiliated with the solar company.
"There are good companies out there and they don't usually knock on the door," Coffman said.
What is online advertising? Experts say there is a possibility that people are cheating. Right, Coffman admitted. “And solar energy is not free.”
“Ask for references first,” Capuchil said. “Do you know the assembly team? are they local? Start with the people you know will be in your community when the job is done, not the gypsy caravan chasing the storm through Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division adds:
- Compare prices and compare reviews.

“The more people do this, the more they understand: if I have to buy a house, do I want to buy it with a $200 utility bill or a $14 utility bill? Capuchil said.
There are several surveys on this topic. Most say that solar energy will add 4-11% to the value of your home.
Local real estate agent Keith May says he has never seen anything like this before.
"I've been asked a lot over the past few years," May said. "I would advise anyone not to install a solar panel if they think it will add value to their home. They will probably be disappointed." What about government incentives?
Once the Inflation Reduction Act is passed, the federal government will provide you with a 30% tax credit on the value of your investment.
Bob funded his solar plant and after the benefits, his payment is less than his electricity bill.
“It worked out very well for us,” he said.
