CHANGZHOU, China , Aug. 25, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Trina Solar has again expanded its international presence with the production of 210mm diameter monocrystalline silicon wafers in Vietnam . The first chips rolled off the assembly line at the factory in the Thai city of Nguyen , 80 kilometers north of Hanoi , on August 23 . The facility will be able to produce 6.5 gigawatts of chips per year. And with this new capability , Trina Solar will have greater flexibility in shipping its products around the world .
Production got the green light on July 31 and the first 12-inch monochromatic silicon ingot rolled off the line on August 4 , marking the production of the first wafer.
In addition to the chip production capacity of 6.5 GW, the new plant has a diesel capacity of 4 GW and a block capacity of 5 GW. Silicon wafer factories include single crystal mining, silicon ingot processing, and silicon slicing and processing. The chips produced are used primarily to manufacture cells and modules at Trina Solar's sites in Vietnam and Thailand , including for supplying Trina Solar to the US market.
Trina's Vertex modules in China help meet the growing global demand for high-performance, efficient, high-reliability, energy-efficient and cost-effective PV modules. Production of silicon rods and wafers at the Vietnam plant will ensure a steady supply of material to the company's other overseas manufacturing bases.
