Indonesia's PLN, CocaCola Europacific Partners Collaborate On Renewable Energy Certificates

The Indonesian government Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is collaborating with Coca-Cola Europeacific Partners (CCEP) in Indonesia to promote environmental sustainability. Under the Renewable Energy Certification (REC) agreement, the two companies have agreed to a major collaboration covering 90 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

Solar Quarter said this important partnership was formalized with the signing of a purchase and sale agreement using PLN's REC Green Energy As Services. The contract includes 90,211 units and runs until 2025.

PLN offers a renewable energy certification service known as REC, which is internationally recognized and available to industrial and national customers. This service allows users to request the use of renewable energy sources. One of the main beneficiaries of REC PLN is CCEP Indonesia, which plans to use it to meet the energy needs of its largest power plant, Bekasi 1 Station.

PLN Commercial and Retail Director Eddie Sremoglianti stressed that the partnership reflects PLN and Coca-Cola's commitment to supporting the government's ambitious target of achieving net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060. Clients including CCEP will receive certified emission reduction certificates from Indonesia. Renewable energy generators.

PLN will issue these certificates in three phases over the next three years. Eddie highlighted the user-friendly nature of the PLN REC service, which makes it easier for customers to order renewable energy.

Transparency, accountability and international recognition are the hallmarks of this service, which has seen increased demand since its launch in 2020. As of November 2023, more than 300 business buyers have chosen REC in PLN, representing a tenfold increase.

Commitment to the Energy Transition

Lucia Karina, Director of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability at CCEP Indonesia, highlighted the company's commitment to being at the forefront of Indonesia's energy transition. With REC PLN, CCEP Indonesia aims to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel equipment in its factories and offices and set an example for other industry players.

Reuters criticized PLN for signing 14 agreements with various institutions at the COP28 climate summit last month to speed up the transition to clean energy. These agreements include projects to develop renewable energy ecosystems, accelerate the closure of coal power plants and implement employee training programs.
