Brunswick Corporation Announces Multiple Solar Installations To Its Global Manufacturing Facilities

METOWA, Ill., Dec. 28, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Brunswick Corporation (NYSE: BC), the world's largest marine entertainment technology company, announced the completion of solar energy systems at three of its global facilities, including its first project. Mexico factory. The Brunswick-based Reynosa facility, which manufactures the award-winning Bayliner, Trophy, Heyday, Sea Ray and Lund brands, has installed more than 900 photovoltaic solar panels on the roof of the facility, covering an area of 4,000 square metres. The plant is expected to cover approximately 45% of the annual energy consumed by the installation site and generate approximately 800,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

“We are committed to improving the communities in which we live and work, including by focusing on the sustainability of our plant operations,” said Jose Guzman, General Manager of Reynosa. “Adding these solar PV panels is equivalent to taking 125 gasoline cars off the road, and is an important contribution to our community.

The new solar panels will avoid approximately 565 tons of carbon emissions annually. In addition to the new Reynosa solar panels, the plant also completed the installation of a new reverse osmosis wastewater recovery system that will recycle the plant's wastewater and reduce annual water consumption by approximately 10 percent.

To achieve its goal of providing 60% of electricity from renewable sources by the end of 2025, Brunswick also announced the installation of two new 100 kW solar systems; One is at the Australian/Dandenong South Mercury Sea head office in New Zealand (Victoria) and the other is at the company's BLA office in Moree, Brisbane, Queensland. The Dandenong plant is expected to generate approximately 48% of the office's electricity needs, avoiding 132 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere each year.

The Murarrie office's solar system will meet an average of 50% of the office's electricity needs and will be able to provide 100% of power during peak hours. The system will produce approximately 142,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually, enough to power about 20 homes for a year.

“The installation of solar at our Queensland plant last year was a great success as the carbon reductions we achieved demonstrated the benefits of using solar energy,” said Paul Waters, Mercury Marine's director of strategy and business improvement. “We see solar energy and energy efficiency in general as an important part of our future. These new devices demonstrate our continued efforts to achieve more with less.

These facilities complement Mercury's recent announcement that its proposed partnership with Alliant Energy has received regulatory approval. The 32-acre project, located east of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, near Mercury's corporate headquarters, will advance the company's sustainability initiatives and the region's growing commitment to renewable energy.
