Ohio's largest Phase 1 solar farm is now fully online and providing clean electricity to the grid.
Fox Squirrel Solar's 577 megawatt (MW) solar farm is located west of Columbus in Madison County. It consists of three phases: 150 MW Fox Squirrel 1, which is online; 250 MW Fox Squirrel 2, scheduled to begin operations in mid-2024; and the 177 MW Fox Squirrel 3, due later this year. Once completed, it will be able to produce enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of 118,000 households.
Fox Squirrel Solar is not only Ohio's largest solar farm; It is the largest on-shore clean energy project designed and built by EDF Renewables in North America. It includes a total of 1.4 million solar panels and 159 inverters. During the peak of Phase 1 construction, 1,650 workers installed 10,000 solar panels each day.
Canadian energy company Enbridge has invested in Phase 1 and plans to make final investment decisions on subsequent phases later this year. According to EDF Renewables North America, the project has secured "strong investment quality" 20-year fixed-price power purchase agreements for full generating capacity.
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) expects significant growth in the Buckeye State: It currently ranks 22nd among the states in solar capacity and is expected to add 8,960 MW of capacity over the next five years, ranking it in no. 1 in the United States 4. lies. for the capacity.
